Rick Steves Audio Europe™ Support
Rick Steves Audio Europe is a work in progress. New audio tracks are typically added every three months and existing tracks are updated as necessary. Be sure to enable Notifications for this app to get the latest updates.
If you have an older device that no longer supports the latest Android or Apple iOS operating systems, and you can't install or update our app, we have all the same great audio content available for listening on Soundcloud. We also make our audio tours available as mp3 downloads.
Requirements
- Apple® device running iOS 10 or higher
- Android device running Android 14 or higher
- A Wi-Fi or cellphone connection is required to download audio files
- Not compatible with any Amazon device due to their proprietary version of the Android software
App Updates
Version 4.1.30 — Android only
- Requires Android 14 or higher as of September 2024.
- Fixed some crashing bugs.
Version 4.1.20 — Android only
- Privacy policy updates.
- Sorry, SD Card support removed to ensure the highest privacy standards.
Version 4.1.10 — Android only
- Requires Android 13 or higher as of October 2023 due to Google's latest requirements to allow our app in the Google Play store. See "if you have an older device" above for more options.
- If your device does not run Android 13 or higher, and you already have Audio Europe installed, do not update your Audio Europe app to 4.1.10 or higher (if you have that choice). The previous version of Audio Europe supports Android 4.4 and higher. However, over time it should be expected that older versions of our app will eventually degrade as our audio-download servers must be maintained to support the lastest version of our app.
- Lock-screen media controls are unavailable in Android 12 and up.
- Various bug fixes.
Version 4.1.6 — Apple only
- Added support for newer devices.
- Various bug fixes.
Version 4.1.5
- Fixed a battery-drain bug that can arise on Apple versions of the app.
- We have set the app to automatically shut off (not just lay dormant in the background like most apps) after one hour of non-use. This is to help those who did not understand how to remove our app's media controls from their lock screen — an important feature for in-situ audio playback — which was leading some to delete the app altogether.
- Various updates for Android.
Version 4.1
- Fixed a bug affecting playback after the screen turns off.
- Apple iOS users may find after update 4.1 in May 2022 that their Playlist was cleared. This was an unfortunate side effect of fixing another issue, as the file location where the app must look for audio had to be changed. You simply need to re-download any audio tracks you wish to use. We sincerely apologize for any frustration.
Version 4.0
- Added support for newer devices and iOS 15.
- Various bug fixes.
Version 3.2
- Minor bug fixes for iOS (May 2018) and Android (Sep 2018).
- Requires Apple devices to run iOS 8 or higher.
- Requires Android devices to run Android 4.1 or higher.
Version 3.0
Features
- The app has been rebuilt on a new platform to aid stability and functionality. We've streamlined the navigation, updated the design with larger images and easy-to-tap buttons, reorganized the playlist displays so all your saved tracks are on a single screen, and added a "Listen" button directly within the "Add Tracks" screen to launch tracks you've already downloaded. Fixed Android version to work on 4.0 or higher.
- Due to the complete rebuild, all versions of Audio Europe before version 3.0 are no longer supported.
