It was such a fun trip. Our guide, Javier, was amazing He was really fun to be around and he was very knowledgeable about Spain. We learned so much about Spanish history and the olive growing region. I am so glad that we went. Spain is now one of my most favorite places to visit. It is a beautiful country.

I have traveled quite a bit over my life and I knew this would be a fun experience but I actually feel this trip exceeded any expectations I had. I loved the way it was managed, I was delighted by what I learned, and surprised by so much beauty wherever we went.

Had an excellent time and found Andalusia to be very beautiful with lots of amazing things to see and do! Our group was a bit larger than other Rick Steves tours I've been on, but overall, the people were lovely. One night in Ubeda would have been enough. Time spent in other towns was perfect.

" it might have been the evening dinner before and the Alhambra tour which I missed with covid. I enjoyed being in Corduba most of all the towns. The movie of how the of the ancient people of the Dolmen of Menga might have built the megalith was the most astonishing. Watching a bull fight on TV at dinner before and then touring the center at Ronda did not convert me but did give me a mind bending appreciation for the history and culture."

This was an intimate look at a very beautiful and unique part of Spain with like minded tour members. Loved being in charming hotels in the city centre, the enthusiastic tour guide, wonderful local guides, and great meals made for another wonderful Rick Steves adventure. Lots of hidden gems in this tour.

The tour was more (of EVERYTHING!) than I expected: more food, more drinks, more unanticipated sights, more effort to drag my luggage from place to place, more history, more camaraderie, and more adventure! Be prepared to be drained physically by the pace! Walking 4-6 miles a day might be an underestimate -- some may notice their step counts peaking at over 20,000 steps on some days! Our group was primarily in their 60s and 70s and we endured, but be prepared for lots of physical activity!

"The Alhambra in Grenada was breathtaking -- nothing could prepare us for that! Definitely a "bucket list" item that I can now proudly check off. Coming in at a close second was the Mezquita-Catedral in Cordoba -- just magnificent! But to be honest, there were "wow moments" every day of the tour -- too many to count. These were just my top two."

This was my 8th RS Tour and it met all my expectations. Jorge was a great guide, so knowledgeable about his homeland. I'm a vegetarian and he always made sure I was accommodated at group meals. Our local guides were all fantastic, some of the best I've experienced of all my tours. This tour has some beautiful and amazing places that were all fascinating. I was surprised by cold and wet weather so my souvenir purchase was a sweater!...not what I expected to be buying in southern Spain! LOL

I had never been to southern Spain - it was delightful! The architecture and the culture were fabulous and the landscape was gorgeous! In addition, we had a very nice, amiable group of people to share the experience.

This was our first Rick Steve’s tour and first visit to Spain. As described, it was an active, informative and authentic trip. Robert, our main guide was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable as he lives in the southern region. The entertainment was varied with quintessential guitar and flaminco performances, wineries and olive trees. Our lodging was very European and clean and comfortable. Local guides were very personable and easy to ask questions of. The scenery was very impressive!

Robert was an excellent tour guide sharing his love of Spanish culture and the Spanish people every moment we were together. The tour experience really helped me to understand what's important about southern Spain from its historic buildings and churches/mosques to the pleasure of tasting tapas. The Flamenco session and the Guitar session were excellent and will create lasting memories of Southern Spain. The tour guides were excellent and were eager to show their love for Spain.

I was amazed at the water and the story of how light comes through the tiny vent on the street to fill the room with amazing light. Truly gave a sense of wonder as well as a sense of history."

Of my seven completed RS tours, all outstanding, Andalucia ranks in the top three for content, value and guide knowledge. The make up of the group was diverse, yet compatible. The activities were stimulating and imaginative. And to be guided by Robert, whose photo at the back of the guidebook testifies to his input in its creation, was a cherry on top.

"No doubt visiting the bulls of Ronda. My companion was chosen to simulate cape technique as the "bull" advanced toward her while a tour member caught her on video. Then, while feasting on a farm-cooked rice dish similar to paella, the owner of the operation, an accomplished professional matador, appeared to answer our many questions. Thank you, Rafael Tejada."

I chose this tour because of the fascinating history of this region. While our guide Robert and our local guides were extremely knowledgable, I found it was good to have done some reading prior to the trip. I highly recommend "The Ornament of the World". It made visiting the area a much richer experience. The mark of a successful tour is the blend of a great itinerary, a fantastic guide and driver, and a group of amiable and interesting fellow adventurers. We had all of that and more!

Great tour of Southern Spain, incredible sights and very different from other parts of Spain. Had a good group of travellers, older than our best of Italy group but this had less activity than that trip. Hotels were mostly good (one 3 star which could be dropped). Robert was our excellent guide. Favourite stops were Grenada, Cordoba and Sevilla!

This was our first Rick Steves tour and we had limited expectations. Nevertheless we were overwhelmed with the skill and planning of our guide Amanda. Overall outstanding but 2 detractors - guide at olive farm was not “up to par” — inexperienced, lacking knowledge and English not on par with other local guides. Also the hotel in Ronda was very very poor - dirty shower tiles, black mold on shower head, and thick dust pockets found. (I have videos and photos if you want them)

Overall, the tour was fantastic. Our guide, Amanda, is experienced, knowledgeable and so helpful. She was very professional and kept everything and everyone organized. All the local guides were also quite good. The food was amazing and the others on our tour were fun, interesting and friendly people. Each destination offered a different glimpse of Andalucía. It would have been nice to spend two nights in Ronda.

This was easily one of the best tours I have been on. The itinerary was amazing, and included so many memorable experiences. The hotels were excellent. Great locations with lots of character as well as comforts. The group dining experiences were a real highlight. They were not just fine dining, but they were built around unique settings and memorable experiences. Every place we visited was unique, fascinating and truly memorable. Also, our tour group was fun, interesting, and friendly.

While we had used Rick Steves guidebooks for years when planning our European vacations, this was our first Rick Steves tour and first guided land tour in Europe. It was terrific from beginning to end. Informative and helpful tour guides, comfortable, centrally located hotels, good food, good travelling companions. I expect we will do other tours.

"Every town sparked a "wow" moment. Cordoba's Mezquita, wine tasting on way to Ubeda - overview of the Synagogue del Agua and later, education on the Spanish olive. Granada's spectacular dinner overlooking the Alhambra and next day strolling thru the ruins. Rhonda's expansive rock gorge and our informative morning on the bull farm with the owner's (matador) surprise visit at lunch. Sevilla's Barrio Santa Cruz and the tapas and wine Javier arranged for our group to say final farewells."

"Ubeda is my WOW. What a hidden gem of cobblestone streets, history and the Jewish Synagogue! If I can have 2 WOW moments, the other would be the visit to the Bull Farm. Not my favorite tour/country, but I had a good time, loved Javier our guide, and met some wonderful people who I hope will become lifelong friends. The language was difficult; not the Spanish dialect I grew up learning in SoCalif; should have prepared better. The pace of the tour was fine for us 70+ year olds (even the “hike” Javier took us on one evening in route to dinner). Beautiful, comfortable hotels; breakfasts adequate. Siesta time unexpected; shops/restaurants closed 2pm to 7-8-ish pm.

"The bull farm tour was outstanding along with the fabulous lunch. Best of all was the surprise meeting of THE matador himself. So enjoyed his story, his humbleness; learning about what the culture of bull fights is really all about. One other great surprise was the stay in Ubeda and searching for the four generation family of ceramic artists and their Arabic wood fire kiln. As a potter, myself, seeing their work and standing inside the massive kiln was inspiring. "

This tour exceeded my expectations! This was my 5th RS tour. Javier was excellent as were every one of the other guides who did the town-based tours. The itinerary was excellent, and the group got along very well. The activities were thoughtful and varied. I really appreciate learning more about the Matador and his bull farm/experiences. The fortified wine tasting and tour was amazing. The Alhambra and dinner the night before was awesome. This is a top tour for me.

I really enjoyed our trip to Andalusia. I felt the trip was very well organized, the travel between cities was smooth. The activities scheduled on the travel days were interesting and informative (especially the olive grove and olive oil factory tours. I enjoyed the guides that were provided as well, very informative and friendly . The hotels were very nice, comfortable with friendly staff. The hotels were also well situated to the sites.

Jesús was a terrific guide. He made the overall experience very enjoyable, held the group well, and imparted a wealth of information to me and the group. I also enjoyed the balance of free time and scheduled time. I thought it worked very well. My only overall complaint was the amount of standing time early in the tour. I would have been more comfortable walking and talking, or having places to sit when we weren't walking. I loved the radio communication devices.

It was a nice balance of "tourist" stuff and learning about Spain and the area we were in. As with other Rick Steves tours we've been on, there was an adequate amount of time to do things on our own in the locations we visited.

A great mix of 3 cities and their world-famous monuments (Mezquita, Alhambra, Royal Alcázar) contrasting with 2 smaller towns (Úbeda & Ronda) and their special charms. Our tour guide and all the local guides were fantastic; these guides are one important reason I book Rick Steves tours.

Loved learning about the Andalusian area of Spain and visiting so many beautiful and historical sites. Enjoyed seeing the result of the blending of Christian, Jewish, and Islamic cultures. We also learned so much about the olive oil industry , bull fighting , and flaminco dancing.

Poor Javier! I was the one on the tour with back problems that I never had. He was great. Even with the medical problem, Spain was great. Tour was a nice combination of everything. People were very nice to me and generally fun.

It really was wonderful! We were so lucky to have "Jorge" as our tour guide and he really took care of us. Each day, after breakfast, there was a plan to see a local guide in each city, and we never had any problems with getting tickets to major places to visit. The attention to detail went beyond expectations. With a strong back ground in event planning I appreciate all the ‘small things’ that are perfectly executed ( behind the scenes ) that contribute to a very smooth Guest Experience! Generally these gestures go unnoticed but Jorge was such an awesome example to ‘perfect execution’. Jorge was always totally on and committed to make everyone’s experience a great one. "A startling "discovery" . When walking through a forest of arches in the Mezquita suddenly you pass an arch and it oepns up to a cathedral which you cannot see until you get right up into it. This was our first Rick Steves tour. Overall, we couldn't have been more pleased. Excellent itinerary, which included unique excursions and plenty of free time. The balance between organized functions and independent activity was optimal. The hotels were surprisingly good, in beautiful boutique properties. Our guide, Robert Wright, was superb. Extremely knowledgeable about all things Spain (loved his poetry readings!), positive, enthusiastic, organized, and an skilled communicator.

Entire process from initial booking, documents and meeting up with tour group was very efficient. Tour director Robert was charming, informative, organized and on-top of his game. I would definitely tour with him again. The hotels were better than expected with the exception of Rondo, I thought the need to use a physical key to lock myself into my room at night was a hazard if I needed to evacuate.

I rarely give an "outstanding or 5" but this trip for a first time RS was more than I had hoped for in all respects!! Aside from all the wonderful monuments, buildings, olive groves, dolmens, and other remarkable sights, the trip would scored a high mark due to our primary tour guide, Robert. His longtime knowledge of and residency in Spain was evident and I so appreciated his reference to the literature, history and art, of each town visited. Lorca, Las Camachas, and Romeo de Torres included!

We had a pleasant and safe travel with great local tour guides giving us a taste of the Anadalucia. we were less impressed with the hotel rooms. non of our assigned rooms had windows with views. but we made up for it by spending time outside

We had to deal with some serious rain at times, which caused me to rethink the notion that it is always better to stay at a small hotel that is unapproachable by bus. But other than that the tour content was excellent and our guides were quite good. I particularly enjoyed the rich, personal knowledge that Jorge Roman brought to his job, and his quirky humor was most enjoyable.

Fascinating itinerary, outstanding guide (Robert), perfect pace with 2 or 3 nights in almost every place (just one 1-nighter). Learned so much about the 1,000-year sweep of Moorish and Spanish history, and thoroughly enjoyed all the tastes (olives, wine, tapas, nuts, cookies, pomegranites) and sounds (Spanish guitarists, flamenco dancers and singers, church bells, children's laughter) and sights (colorful tiles, stunning views, astonishing gold and jewels in the palaces). Incredible!

Great guide, enjoyed and appreciated all tour activities. We at times had too much time for what there was to see other than what we saw together in some towns. Cordoba. Really 2 nights would be about right but since starting point most of us had 3 nights. Obeda was 2 nights and I loved the Synagogue del Agua but one night would have been enough. Ronda could be 2 nights as not time for all we wanted to see. The bull farm which was great could be a day trip from Ronda possibly.

This trip was eye opening in so many ways. We marveled at the multilayered history and multicultural impacts that Islamic, Judaic, and Christian peoples have had on this land over the centuries. I have a greater appreciation for how successful these groups (for the most part) were at living in peace for so long. I was also struck at the immense wealth accumulated by Spanish monarchs from their conquests in the new world and how quickly it all was squandered.

I loved every minute! The hotels were charming, comfortable, and well-situated for exploring historic neighborhoods. Our guide provided loads of interesting information and tips for getting the most out of our tour. I enjoyed every one of the activities, but I also appreciated the well-timed free hours for resting or individual exploring. Local guides were professional and extremely knowledgeable. I can't think of a single thing I would improve.

"Hard to identify one favorite! I'm a sucker for flowers, and so the patios in Córdoba were especially interesting to me. It was fun to talk with the owners about their patios. The thunderstorm at the restaurant overlooking the Alhambra. The incredible view from the Ronda bridge."

It was wonderful. I had never been anywhere in the Andalusia region of Spain and I learned so much about the history of the region and of Spain in general. I loved the itinerary because there was just the right amount of time in each place, although I do wish we had an extra day in Sevilla, but my bad for not doing an extra day there myself.

In the midst of stunning scenery and sites (Alhambra, Mezquita, Royal Palace and Alcazar), Amanda made this trip very special for me with her seamless organization and informative bus narratives which gave me a complete history of Spain, She is a fabulous tour guide, thank you Amanda. In addition to the big sites in Cordoba, Granada and Seville, it was the smaller places like the San Lorenzo church and Sinagoga de Agua in Ubeda and the bull farm/lunch in Ronda that were special to me..

I cannot say enough good about this tour! It greatly exceeded all my expectations! Our main tour guide, Amanda, was wonderful - so very knowledgeable, organized, kind and fun! So were each of the tour guides we met with along the way! I learned so much! The hotels and restaurants were all amazing; the places we explored so very beautiful and inspiring; our tour members bonded and enjoyed each other, filling our times together with wonder and joy! I enjoyed all the eye candy! I liked not going at a 24/7 pace. I liked the less populated cities more. Ubeda and Ronda were my favorite destinations. Quiet and beautiful. The church we visited in Ubeda and the tapas and drinks over the valley was so beautiful and refreshing! The docents were fabulous! Don’t get me wrong, I loved the tours of Mezquita and the amazing Alhambra. The dinner the night before the Alhambra was my favorite! I’m definitely very glad I was on this tour.

"The dinner facing the Alhambra, then visiting it the next day. Flamingo in Cordoba, the view from the bus believe it or not. The beautiful blue sky and the olive trees. The Jewish dwelling in Cordoba? The tour and photo offerings were wonderful. I loved the bull farm. The woman was so informative. We learned a lot from her. The carriage ride the last night was so beautiful. We had a bit of a problem worrying about the horses, but they were very healthy looking. "

A bit challenging in that our bags did not get to us for 5/6 days and at that point I contracted a prolonged and severe case of dysentery that lasted the remainder of the trip. At least 3 of the group got this at about the same time but none of our spouses did. So likely from something eaten in common. Customer service at RS in WA was helpful in pointing out large department stores for clothing and toiletries.

Overall the tour was great. The itinerary was well planned and the local guides were excellent. Our guide Javier wasn't up to the standard we expected or had experienced on previous tours with cheaper companies. We expected much more information about the cities or events we were headed to and he either gave very little info or none at all. At the halfway point he offered us an opportunity to give anonymous feedback so I did and he did improve.

This tour was dedicated to the small Spanish area of Andalucía and allowed lots of time to luxuriate in the beauty, history and culture of the Moors and the Spanish. My fellow travelers were friendly and a pleasure to spend time with. Our guide James was a Spanish enthusiast and navigated our needs in spite of the twists and turns that can happen on a tour.

"Although driving along the boulevard into Seville with the jacaranda trees in full bloom was an amazing experience leading us to the incredible cathedral, it was not the highlight. Sitting at our rooftop restaurant eating a deviously curated meal and watching the Alhambra emerge from hills bathed in light was otherworldly. The warm breeze wafted across our tables, conversation flowed and even a full moon rose in the sky to complete a perfect picture. How could anyone ask for more."

"The Best of Andalucia" was an outstanding tour, a nice blend of strenuous sight-seeing and unscheduled time. It ran quite smoothly, and Amanda, our calm tour leader, kept us all well-informed. The cathedrals and palaces were stunning; the side trips interesting; the food terrific. We luckily drew an extremely congenial group of travelers. The hotels were very attractive and comfortable.
